The Miami Dolphins are now preparing for their Week 18 game against the New York Jets and there is still doubt about whether Tua Tagovailoa will be back at quarterback because of a hip injury. Speaking about Tagovailoa’s situation, the head coach Mike McDaniel stated that it remained in the ‘unknowns’ category, and it was all about time for him.
Tua Tagovailoa Injury Update
Tagovailoa applied the hip injury in the early part of December and was restricted in the practice sessions prior to Week 16. Although he started the game and helped the Eagles to defeat the San Francisco 49ers 29-17, he was limited to only 46 yards at week 16 and was listed as doubtful for the week 17 match against the Cleveland Browns but was ruled out.
Substituting for Tagovailoa, the backup quarterback Tyler Huntley played a good game, making 22 of 26 pass attempts for 225 yards, one touchdown, and 52 rushing yards and one touchdown. McDaniel also praised Huntley’s performance and added that the team is working on game strategies for both quarterbacks as they wait for the latest update of Tagovailoa.
The Dolphins’ chances of making the postseason playoffs is dependent on a win against the New York Jets and a loss by the Denver Broncos to the Kansas City Chiefs. Nevertheless, the Chiefs have stated that some of their main players such as Patrick Mahomes will be on the bench, which may pose a threat to Miami’s chances of clinching a playoff spot.
Nevertheless, Tagovailoa has been quite persistent despite the injuries he sustained throughout the season. Following a concussion in the second week of the season, he was the most efficient Dolphins quarterback with 72.3% pass completion and threw 19 TDs and seven interceptions. His best week was from the 12 th week to the 14 th week, where he posted an average of 338 passing yards with an average of 8 touchdowns and a zero interception .
Preparations for the Dolphins continue for the game that is now considered a ‘’must-win’’ while all attention is focused on Tagovailoa’s availability and return as a player that can change the course of the Dolphins’ play-offs.
